In 1906, there was a big earthquake. At the time, Sarah Winchester was in her favorite bedroom, a daisy one. She was trapped in the room for several hours after the earthquake. Her servants had to get her out with a crow bar. Sarah took this as a warning that she had spent too much time and money on this section of the house and ordered it to be torn apart and reconstructed somewhere else.
